Samuel Walters (British 1811-1882), the U.S. Mail Sidewheel Steamer “Arago” approaching the French port of Le Havre. The “Arago” was built in 1850 by Westervelt & Co. of New York. Samuel Walters was one of the cornerstones of the famous Liverpool school of maritime ship painters, is extremely well-known and considered the most important of Liverpool artists.
