Description

 

Samuel Walters (British, 1811-1882), Portrait of the Merchant Line Packet “Vanguard” off Point Lynas (England). Signed and dated lower left “S. Walters, 1850”. The packet ship “Vanguard” was built by William H. Webb in 1849 for the Merchant Line. This painting was commissioned to commemorate her entry into service. See p 216, A S.
