Thomas Brooks Scout, 1850-1860. Carved while Brooks was working in Chicago. Large dramatic, beautifully carved figure, known as the “Scout,” with right arm cocked over the eyes as though peering into the distance. Full feathered and decorated headdress, animal pelt cloak with head and paw draped over the shoulders, fringed buckskin clothing and leggings, armbands, and necklace, on a plinth base with wheels. Painted in recent years, but may retain old paint underneath, 86” (just over 7 ft.) tall.
