Charles Carmel Outside Row Armored Stander, 1915, from the Edwin Ferren III collection sold at auction in 1983. Full head and body armor, adorned with more than 300 Borelli jewels, no jewels missing. Although part of the glitzy Coney Island carving style, Carmel did not use a lot of jewels on his carvings. Frame maker M. D. Borelli was one of Carmel’s best customers, and loved to add lots of sparkling jewels to the figures on his carousels to make them sparkle in the lights, sometimes even obscuring the carving detail. In the natural wood, excellent condition with crisp carving detail, no jewels missing, one small repair on the left rear knee, 62-1/2”L x 62”H.
