Description
Carved and Painted Tobacconist Figure of an Indian Chief, Thomas Brooks (New York City, 1828-1895). The unusual “Leaner” style was introduced by Brooks. Indian chief with unusual feathered headdress, wearing fringed buckskin costume and leggings, large medallion necklace, holding a bunch of cigars in his right hand, left arm draped across a large tree stump. Old paint, 73” high with base, 19” deep.
