Portrait of a Lady and a Gentleman
1829-1831

Superbly rendered with great attention to detail, from the intricate lacework on the lady's dress to the deeds and legal papers on the gentleman's table.  Identity of the sitters is unknown, portraits most likely American, but possibly English.  Dated circa 1829-1830 because of the sitters' clothing and the Classical full "scrolled style" Duncan Phyfe chair (see Bishop's The American Chair).  Oil on canvas, very lightly cleaned, in the original gilt frames, original linings.
