Circa 1800.  Mahogany with intricately detailed contrasting satinwood inlays.  Pine and poplar are secondary woods.  Top center drawer a satinwood panel with sixteen stars above an American Eagle with Union Shield, the drawer held in place by a Quaker locking device, flanked by a pair of short drawers, above a veneration of three graduated size long drawers, each with a contrasting satinwood center and shell carved panels on the corners of the side panels, the skirt with cyma reverse curve, the chest retaining its original oval brass pulls depicting an American Eagle clutching a banner in its beak inscribed E Pluribus Unum, under thirteen stars.

Size:  41" high x 44" wide by 23" deep

Very strong attribution to Michael Allison of New York City (active 1800-1847) based on the appearance and construction of labeled Allison furniture, and a nearly identical labeled Allison chest in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  This same chest of drawers is pictured (Figure 898) in Treasury of American Design.

Price:  $68,000
