Francis W. Edmonds, portraitist, genre painter, and successful banker, was born in Hudson, NY.  He was an officer in both the National Academy and the American Art-Union.  He frequently exhibited at the National Academy (initially under the name "E. F. Williams), as well as the Apollo Association, American Art-Union, Boston Anthenaeum, Maryland Historical Society, Pennsylvania Academy, and Royal Academy.  He died at his country home "Crow's Nest."
