Description
Carved and Painted Tobacconist Figure of an Indian Chief by Thomas V. Brooks (1828-1895). See Fried Fried’s Artists in Wood, pp. 182-189. Opened his carving shop in Chicago in 1871. Apprenticed to Master Carvers John Cromwell in Chicago and later Samuel Robb in New York. In old paint and surface patina, 68”H, base 24” x 21”.
