Description
“The Soldier’s Farewell on the Eve of a Battle,” by John Raphael Smith, R.A. (1752-1812). Scene depicts a British Cavalryman in North America during the Revolutionary War. Smith exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy of art in London. This painting was exhibited there in 1787 and was so popular that an engraving was later made (included in the sale).
Oil on wood panel, 15” x 12”, in the original carved and gilded frame.
