Historically Important Carved Doorway Pediment from the Customs House, Salem, MA, late 18th C. Bold leaf and scroll carving with central section rendering of the Great Seal of the City of Salem. Latin motto translates “To the Farthest Port of the East.,” indicating Salem’s role as a major trading seaport. Provenance: The Collection of the late Allan Forbes, President of State Street Trust Company, Boston. Excellent condition, old repaint, 9’ x 40”. Price and additional history upon request.
